James is our Chief Executive Officer. He has had a strong career with expansive experience at executive and director level positions, and was the long standing Chief Operating Officer of The Hermal Group, owners of CUSP.

James is a direct, diligent and practical leader who has strongly believed in the vision of sustainable timber products from Tasmania since its inception. Formally educated in management, James has deep respect for the application of the opportunity cost of staff and resource allocation. He is passionate, committed and proudly neurologically diverse and harvests these skills in generating innovative solutions. In balancing practical real life experience with decades of management and leadership roles, James leads his team with authenticity, vulnerability and trust. He provides clear and concise instructions and directions, whilst bringing his team on the journey for his vision for the organisation. All staff joining CUSP are told 4 things – be honest, don’t look at the ground – find something to do, not my job are words I don’t understand, and if you put you will reap the rewards.
Under James’ leadership our production facility has been transformed from operating out of a leased facility, to reinvigorating the old mill in Wynyard into an operation that can function at a level which provides certainty and profitability for the business. CUSP has also been transformed from being a business that only offered cross laminated timber to one that offers the full range of CLT, glue lam, DAR and single process timber products. James is determined to build a strong passionate team who working diligently to cement the CUSP brand as a formidable player in the building industry, utilising plantation hardwood in an efficient and environmentally considered approach, to create pieces of individualised artwork for buildings across Australia, while maintaining the family business feel.
